Event History
The Grand Nairobi Bike Race was launched in 2019 with a simple ambition: to bring together cycling enthusiasts from all walks of life for a shared experience on the vibrant streets of Nairobi. The inaugural edition attracted 450 participants, reflecting an appreciation of cycling as a way to stay active, support wellbeing, and experience the city differently.
In 2022, Jubilee Insurance came on board as Title Sponsor, marking a pivotal moment in elevating cycling – one of the region’s most under-sponsored yet high-impact sports. This partnership has expanded the event beyond sport into a platform that advances both physical and societal wellbeing.
The event has since evolved into Africa’s premier annual cycling experience, now branded as the Jubilee Live Free Race (JLFR) powered by the Grand Nairobi Bike Race.
To date, it has recorded significant growth, with the most recent edition bringing together 3,387 participants from 20 countries globally, alongside 26 corporate partners who continue to elevate the scale, experience, and impact of the race.
